ABOUT DRUM MAJORS

DM-final-heat-1wThe Sacramento Valley Scottish Games & Festival – Drum Major competition is one of the largest in the national. We are sanctioned by the Western United States Pipe Band Association and comply with the rules set by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association/Drum Majors. We were the first to host the United States Scottish Drum Major Championship / 2010, 2011, and 2012. This is a “moving” championship and we look forward to hosting it again.

We host a great 2-day event with 2 classes – Senior, Juniors. Beginners along with seasoned competitors are welcome to join in the fun weekend. Each day is separate with prize money and medals for the top 4 places. An overall championship is announced on Sunday from the combined scores. Besides holding drum major competition, we have a fun event in the afternoon, and hold the Sunday Connect 4 Tournament for all competitors and family members. Bragging rights is on the line along with a plaque and prize money.

Beginner’s Workshop:

Saturday, we provide a workshop for beginners, aged 8-12. This is an opportunity to learn what the drum majors do. David Cubberly, a national champion and co-chair of this event, is the instructor. Many of the experienced competitors also help in the workshop.
